Downingtown and Chester Springs Tang Soo Do Classes

Beginner Tang Soo Do Classes Enrolling In December

students in tang soo do in Downingtown and Chester Springs - World Martial Arts Academy

The art of Tang Soo Do involves the development of the mind and the body. There are three areas of development that we focus on in our training: Neh Gung (Internal Energy), Weh Gung (External Energy) and Shim Gung (Mental/Spiritual Energy). Neh Gung can be considered our breath during our technique, Weh Gung is our body’s action (use of hip) and Shim Gung is our attitude; our discipline (Moo Do).

Tang Soo Do Moo Duk Kwan Founder, Kwan Jang Nim Hwang Kee, introduced a systematic and scientific method of training to enable us to realize our full potential. Through this system, each area builds on the next and is progressively more involved. Our art consists of the following training areas:

  • Basic and advanced techniques

These include hand, foot and blocking techniques and also stances.

  • Traditional patterns (Hyung)

Tang Soo Do Hyungs are simulated fighting patterns to develop and refine technique, balance, coordination and also breathing.

  • 1 Steps (Il Soo Sik)

Done with a partner these are a pre set series of attack and defensive moves using hands, feet or takedowns to develop timing, distance and control.

  • Technique Combinations (Kyol Hap Ki Sul)

These are a series of 10 different combinations using all stances, hand and foot techniques and blocks. They develop timing, speed, multi directional movement and coordination.

  • Sparring (Dae Ryun)

World Martial Arts Academy is a non-contact academy. Students freely exchange hand and foot techniques demonstration control, speed, accuracy, relaxation and care for a fellow student. All sparring is done with full protective equipment: helmet, gloves, shin pads, mouth guard and groin guard.

  • Self Defence (Ho Sin Sul)

Self defence is an important part of martial arts training designed for protection in todays modern society. Students are taught simple yet effective techniques including verbal, passive resistance, physical and also attacker psychology. Students will also learn aspects of joint locking and manipulation, throws and take down techniques.

  • Mat Work

These techniques include rolling, break falling and throwing techniques. It teaches students to fall correctly without injury and also develop flexibility, balance and confidence.
